This page compares the self-exclusion and limit-setting tools described by the casinos we have reviewed. We are going to start by telling you why that comparison matters less than you might expect.

The tool that works best is not a casino's

Every casino tool on this page shares one weakness: it depends on the casino honouring it.

Across the casinos we have reviewed, we have documented nine separate players describing requests to self-exclude, cool off or set a deposit limit that were not actioned. At one casino, a player lost NZ$27,352 after an explicit cooling-off request. At another, a player asked a VIP manager roughly thirty times to close his account and was offered bonuses each time.

A tool that requires an email and a reply is not a tool you can rely on at the moment you need it.

Australian players: BetStop does not cover these casinos

BetStop is the National Self-Exclusion Register, run by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. It is free, takes one registration, covers every licensed Australian online and phone wagering provider, and runs from three months to a lifetime. For licensed betting, it is the single strongest tool available to anyone in Australia.

It does not apply to online casino games or to services provided illegally in Australia. That is stated on BetStop's own site. Every casino on this website is an offshore operator licensed in Curaçao, Anjouan, Tobique or Kahnawake, and none of them is inside the register.

So if you register with BetStop and keep playing at an offshore casino, nothing has changed there. Register anyway if betting is part of the problem — it is free and it closes a real door. Just do not mistake it for cover you do not have. betstop.gov.au

What works regardless of the casino

These three things do not require any operator's cooperation, and none of them can be reversed at two in the morning by clicking a button.

1. A bank-level gambling block

This is the strongest single step most people can take. Most major Australian, New Zealand and Canadian banks now offer a gambling transaction block in the app, usually under card controls or spending limits.

It works at the payment layer. The casino never gets the chance to decline your deposit, because the money never leaves your bank. It covers every gambling site at once, including ones you have not signed up to yet.

Look for one with a cooling-off period before it can be switched off. Many banks impose 48 hours or more. That delay is the feature, not an inconvenience — it exists precisely for the moment you want to undo it.

If your bank does not offer one, ask. The feature has spread quickly and many banks added it recently.

2. Blocking software on your devices

BetBlocker is free and run by a registered charity. It blocks tens of thousands of gambling sites, installs on phones, tablets and computers, and can be set for a fixed period you cannot shorten.

Gamban is a paid alternative with a similar approach. Some banks and treatment services provide it at no cost.

Install on every device you use, not just the one you gamble on most. The gap you leave is the one you will use.

3. A conversation

The helplines at the top of this page are free, confidential and answered around the clock. You do not need to have hit a crisis point to call, and you do not have to give your name.

They also do practical things people do not expect — financial counselling for gambling debt, referral to face-to-face support near you, and help talking to a family member. New Zealand's service runs separate lines for debt, youth, Māori and Pasifika callers.

What a casino tool should look like

Where a casino does offer something, these are the features that decide whether it is real protection or a form to fill in.

FeatureWhy it matters
Irreversible A break you can cancel is not a break. The period must run to its end
Self-service A button in your account, not an email and a wait. Every documented failure involved a request sent and not answered
Immediate Effective the moment you set it, not after review
No reason required Being asked to justify the decision turns it into a retention conversation
Deposit limits too Full exclusion is a large step. A limit lets you act earlier
Written into the terms A clause you can quote back is worth more than a help page that can change

What the casinos we have reviewed describe

Read this column heading carefully: "describes". We have read these terms documents in full and we are reporting what they say. We have not tested whether the tools work, because testing a self-exclusion means locking ourselves out of an account we need. Where players have reported what happened when they tried, we have said so.

Casinos that describe both exclusion and limits

CasinoWhat the terms describe
RoyalXO Section 19 names self-exclusion, cooling-off periods and limit setting, referring to a separate policy
Pixi Casino Self-service tools described in the terms
22Bet A dedicated responsible gambling page exists on the site. We could not read the terms, which serve no text

The best-designed tool we have found

AzurSlot's "Take a break" is the only casino tool we have read whose design matches what the job requires.

Minimum 24 hours. Automated confirmation email. And the clause that matters: "you won't be able to reactivate your account under any circumstances until the chosen period expires."

One thing to know before using it: activating it cancels any pending withdrawals and returns the funds to your balance. You can request them again when the period ends. Withdraw first, wait for the money to land, then take the break.

Where the terms and the casino disagree

BetLabel's terms promise self-exclusion for 1, 6 or 12 months and deposit limits set daily, weekly or monthly.

A player who requested a deposit limit on 13 August 2026 states he was told to email a dedicated address, did so, and received no response. He deposited roughly €1,300 over the following two days. On 18 August he states the casino confirmed by email that it does not offer deposit limit services at all.

Two further players describe self-exclusion requests not actioned at the same casino, one of them asked to give a reason before it would be processed. A published clause is not the same as a working process.

Casinos whose terms describe nothing at all

We read the full terms, bonus terms and VIP terms at each of these. None contains a responsible gambling section. No deposit limits, no loss limits, no session limits, no cooling-off mechanism, no self-exclusion procedure.

OperatorBrands
Club World Group All Star Slots, Lucky Red, Club World, Manhattan Slots, Aladdin's Gold, High Noon, CryptoReels, Buzzluck
Stable Tech N.V. Lucky Hunter, N1 Bet, RollXO
SafeCasino SafeCasino

The Stable Tech brands contain one related clause and it is worth quoting, because of what it implies. Section 10.5 notes that deposit limits cannot be applied to cryptocurrency deposits, and suggests using another payment method if you want to limit your gambling.

That is the entire reference to self-limitation across three casinos. It acknowledges the concept while describing no mechanism for it.

At RollXO, one of those three, five independent players from five countries describe asking for account closure, a cooling-off period or self-exclusion and not receiving it. Those requests were for something the casino has not documented a process for — which does not excuse the outcome, but does explain why five people got five versions of nothing.

If you have made a request and nothing happened

This is the situation that produced every serious case we have documented. Here is what to do, in order.

1. Stop playing now, not when they reply

The gap between the request and the response is where the damage happens. The NZ$27,352 case, the €1,300 case and the Norwegian player who waited six days for an answer all lost their money inside that window.

2. Block it yourself

Bank block, blocking software, or both. You can do this in the next ten minutes without anyone's permission. Do this before you chase the casino, not after.

3. Remove the payment method

Delete saved cards from the account. Move money out of the e-wallet you deposit from. Withdraw your balance if you can.

If a withdrawal fails and the money returns to your playing balance, treat that as an emergency. Two players have described exactly that sequence ending with them losing everything to impulsive bets. Money you cannot remove is money you will eventually gamble.

4. Put the request in writing and keep it

Email, not live chat. Chat transcripts disappear. Screenshot the request with its date, and every reply.

5. Escalate to the regulator

Regulators treat failures to action self-exclusion more seriously than almost anything else, because it is the core of what a licence requires. A payment dispute is commercial. An ignored self-exclusion is a licence condition.

Find the licence number in the site footer and search the issuing authority. For Curaçao licensees under the 2024 framework, the Curaçao Gaming Authority accepts player complaints directly.

Casino Guru also runs a free complaints service with a real resolution record, and publishes cases whether or not the casino engages. Our complaints guide covers how to prepare a submission.

How to check any casino yourself

Two minutes, before you deposit.

  1. Open the terms and search for "self-exclusion", "cooling", "deposit limit" and "responsible". If none of those words appears, there is no process
  2. Look for the mechanism, not the sentiment. Many casinos include a paragraph about gambling being entertainment rather than income. That is not a tool. A tool has a period, a method and an effect
  3. Check whether it is self-service. "Contact our support team to request exclusion" means a human has to act. "Set this in your account settings" does not
  4. Check whether it can be reversed. If the terms do not say the period is binding, assume it is not

One warning about self-assessment questionnaires

Several casinos publish a list of questions — whether you borrow to gamble, whether you have lied about your spending, whether you feel depressed because of losses.

We have found two casinos whose version states you are "likely to have a gambling problem" only if you answer yes to all of them. One of the questions asks about suicidal thoughts.

That threshold is wrong. Every recognised screening tool treats a small number of positive answers as significant. A person who has borrowed money to gamble and lied about it has a serious problem whether or not they are suicidal.

If any of those questions describes you, that is enough. Call one of the numbers at the top of this page.

What we would do

If you are reading this page because something feels wrong, the order that works is:

Block the money first. Bank-level gambling block, today. It is the one step that does not depend on anyone else and cannot be undone in a bad moment.

Block the sites second. BetBlocker is free, takes a few minutes, and covers every device.

Then talk to someone. 1800 858 858 in Australia, 0800 654 655 or text 8006 in New Zealand, your provincial service in Canada. Free, confidential, no name required.

Use the casino's own tool as well, not instead. Where it exists it adds a layer. It should never be the only one.

If betting is part of it and you are in Australia, register with BetStop too — it closes every licensed Australian wagering account in one step, even though it does not reach the casinos on this site.

Our methodology explains how we read these documents and why the absence of a responsible gambling section affects a casino's rating.
